Insects

  • Gypsy Moth - The caterpillars feeding will stress tress and can kill them. Learn how to reduce their numbers in your yard.

  • Elm Bark Beetle - Spreads Dutch Elm Disease, a fungal infection.
  • Lone Star Ticks - can transmit bacteria that cause human monocytic ehrlichiosis, a potentially debilitating and dangerous disease. If you believe you may have located a Lone Star Tick, email Susan Paskewit, a local lead professor at the University of Wisconsin is interested in collecting specimens found in Wisconsin.

Disease

  • West Nile Virus - disease transmitted by a certain breed of mosquito which can be spread to humans, birds, and horses. People can report dead birds found near their homes to the following hotline: 800-433-1610.
  • Oak Wilt - a fungal disease which can quickly kill an oak tree.
