New Police Officers
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Training and Standards Bureau requires all new police officers to successfully complete an approved 720-hour recruit training course.
While at the academy, the recruits receive classroom, field, and hands-on/scenario-based training.
Current Officers
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Training and Standards Bureau mandates that each sworn officer receives a minimum of 24 hours of approved training yearly in order to remain certified as a law enforcement officer in the State of Wisconsin.
In-service training received at the Waukesha County Technical College as well as in-house training provides officers with instruction in the areas of:
- CPR
- Critical incident response/Incident Command System (ICS)
- Domestic terrorism
- Emergency vehicle operation
- Firearms
- Legal updates
- Officer safety
- Recertification in Electronic Control Device (ECD)
- Use of force - hands-on and less lethal
