The Menomonee Falls Police Department and Menomonee Falls Neighborhood Watch have the common goal of keeping the Village a safe place to live, work and play. The two organizations have worked together since 1986 to educate the public on how they can keep themselves safe, how and when to notify the police of a problem, and to network with neighbor’s to watch out for each other. In 2009, the MFNW was chosen by the National Neighborhood Watch, a Division of the National Sheriff’s Association for a Neighborhood Watch Award of Excellence. Since then the group’s work has only gotten better.
Like any healthy organization, there is a need for new members to join from time to time and put their own stamp on it. For the MFNW, this is one of those times. If you have two hours every other month, a little time to reach out to your neighbors to discuss what’s going on in your neighborhood, and a willingness to be an advocate for safety, the MFNW would like you to consider being a NW Captain.
A NW Captain simply serves as the leader of a small section of homes nearby, perhaps establishes a social media network with neighbors, shares information about crime or suspicious circumstances occurring in the neighborhood or elsewhere in the Village, and encourages all to remain vigilant. The two hours every other month is attending a MFNW meeting where the group’s business is conducted and additional information can be gained. The position is largely what an individual wants to make of it, but everything is in the interest of creating a safer neighborhood.
If you are interested, or think you might be interested, please call Juvenile Officer Jay Weber at the Menomonee Falls Police Department at 262-532-8724, or email him at jweber@menomonee-falls.org. If you want to learn more about the MFNW before calling, the next meeting is Thursday, May 14th at 6:30pm in the Village Board Room. All are welcome to attend.
