NEA Big Read in the Falls: Latinos in Milwaukee2021-03-16T10:30:00Milwaukee’s Latino community began humbly as a “Colonia Mexicana” in the 1920s, when Mexicans were recruited to work in the city’s tanneries. Joseph A. Rodriguez is Professor and Chair in the Department of History at UW-Milwaukee where he teaches classes on US history, US Latino history, and urban history. He has written books and articles on those topics including the history of Latinos in Milwaukee. Registration is required and begins at 9:00 AM on February 15.
