Mill Pond Drawdown

The Mill Pond water level will be drawn down from approx. June 15th through August 1st in order to conduct a mandated inspection of the Lepper Dam.

The DNR requires the Lepper Dam to be fully inspected once every 10 years for structural deficiencies. Fully lowering the water level of the pond takes several weeks to accomplish, due to the limitation set by the DNR only allowing the water level to drop a maximum of six inches over a 24 hour period. Lowering of the water level is of course dependent upon the number of wet weather events that occur in that timeframe along with any other activity further up stream that would affect the water level of the pond.

Making reservations for the use of the park shelter has been restricted while the water level in the pond is down, however that does not prevent anyone from using the shelter on a first come, first serve basis. The lowering of the pond and the inspection will not include any activity that is not normally present besides personnel conducting the inspection and adjusting the height of sluice gates periodically.
