Effective immediately, the Menomonee Falls Fire Department is implementing an open burning ban in the Villages of Menomonee Falls and Lannon.
This ban applies to all campfires and the burning of yard waste or other debris in barrels or in piles on the ground.
The ban does not apply to cooking fires in a gas or charcoal grill or natural gas/propane outdoor fireplaces.
Spring in Wisconsin has the highest wildfires risk with the No. 1 cause being debris burning. The danger is highest in the spring after the snow-cover melts and before vegetation has become green.
In addition, an emergency wildfire response will require the commitment of fire department resources for an extended period of time. This would reduce our availability to respond to the current COVID-19 Pandemic.
Please refrain from lighting any fire outside until these conditions improve. We will continue to monitor the situation and reconsider this order when the fire danger and COVID-19 pandemic circumstances change.
We appreciate your patience and understanding.
