In accordance with the adopted Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, Village Park is being transformed into a more vibrant community destination. Plans call for the expansion of the park to Appleton Avenue and for a variety of "first in the Village" features including an event plaza, playful landscaping berms, a "great lawn" open space, a performance amphitheater, and an all children's splash pad and destination play area. The design for the park links visitors to downtown and includes elements that support gatherings and events. Building materials, lighting, seating, shade structures, restrooms, parking, and landscaping improvements are meant to be inviting for people of all ages and to accommodate a wide variety activities.
In 2018, property acquisition and demolition opened up areas along Appleton Avenue for future park development. In 2019, the Village will demolish the remaining unoccupied home along Appleton Avenue. In early 2020, the Village intends to complete demolition work, utility relocation (including removal of overhead wires/utility poles) and site grading at Village Park. Work on the plaza, comfort station, great lawn and performance stage will likely move forward during the summer of 2020. The timeline for the destination play area is yet to be determined. Stay tuned for additional project updates.
