In the law enforcement arena, an increasingly popular service to the community is that of a Citizen Police Academy. A Citizen Police Academy is a program intended to educate citizens about police work. Furthermore, it is an opportunity for the department to build a rapport with the citizens we serve. We are very happy to announce that the Menomonee Falls Police Department will be offering its second Citizen Police Academy in the Fall of 2010.
The Menomonee Falls Police Department Citizen Police Academy is designed to give the public a working knowledge of our department’s organization, personnel, policies and procedures. The Citizen Police Academy is not designed as a preparatory class for individuals who desire to become a law enforcement officer. Rather, it is intended as an educational and informative offering for adults who either reside or work in our village that have a desire to learn more about their police department.
The Citizen Police Academy will cover a plethora of subjects to include police administration, traffic enforcement, police operations, criminal investigations, use of force, tactical operations, etc. In addition, you will be a graduate of the Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.
The Citizen Police Academy will consist of thirteen weekly two to three hour classes and one Saturday eight hour session. Please see the attached schedule. Questions reference the Citizen Academy can be directed to Sergeant Michael J. Brasch, (262) 532-8740.
If you are interested in attending the Fall 2010 Menomonee Falls Police Citizen Police Academy and CERT Training, please fill out the enclosed application and return it no later than August 1, 2010. Upon receipt of all of the applications, we will review them and select twenty citizens for Class #2. It is our intent to have a very diverse class. Citizens accepted into the class will be required to return a signed waiver of liability and a registration fee of $30.00. All registration fees will be returned to the attendee in the form of refreshments for each class and an academy class shirt.
