History
This area has been used by Village residents since the 1800s. The land was owned by the home and business owners along both sides of the river. In the late 1940s and early 1950s the land was acquired by the Village. In exchange for the land, a lifetime chain fence with a gate adjoining each property was built along each side of the river from Main Street to Roosevelt Drive. The Garden Club on Menomonee Falls helped develop the parkland on the river banks. Today, as in the past, this area is a gathering place for recreational activities. The major feature of the park is the pond that was created when the Menomonee River was dammed to supply water power for a mill. The mill has long been removed, but the pond, dam, and spill way still exist at the south end of the park.
