Inspections of Private Sewer Laterals in Select Neighborhoods
As you may be aware, a number of residents in your neighborhood have experienced problems with basement backups from sanitary sewers during very heavy rainstorms. The Village of Menomonee Falls is committed to minimizing these occurrences through numerous capital projects and programs specifically designed for your neighborhood and the Village as a whole.
We are pleased to announce that select neighborhoods have been identified to participate in a program to identify private property sources of Infiltration and Inflow (I/I) into the public sanitary sewer system. If your home is eligible for this program, you will be notified by mail. The areas selected were based on a combination of sanitary sewer flow monitoring, data analysis, and historical reports of basement backups and flooding. The initial plan is to use information from this investigation to identify a “pilot” project area to perform private property reconstruction or rehabilitation work.
For eligible property owners, two public meetings that explain the program are planned:
Tuesday, August 12, 2014, either:
Meeting #1 4:30 p.m.
Meeting #2 6:30 p.m.
Willowood Park Shelter #2, W151 N5476 Badger Dr., Menomonee Falls.

The project will be discussed in greater detail at the public meeting, which we hope you can attend. Village and Consultant personnel will be available to answer any questions about the program at that time.
The Village is using the engineering firm Brown and Caldwell to assist in performing inspection services for this project. The effort will include televising of private sewer laterals while either the storm sewers or storm ditches are artificially flooded with fluorescent green dye, to help with visually identifying any defects. We intend to perform this work in September and October of this year. The cost for these inspections will be covered by the Village such that there is no direct cost to the homeowner - a value of over $500. Which laterals will be inspected and to what extent will depend on observations in the field during the artificial storm sewer/storm ditch flooding. While your participation in this program is voluntary, it is essential in order for the Village of Menomonee Falls to obtain accurate and useful information concerning the problems of basement backups in your neighborhood.
If you were contacted via mail about participation in the program and would like to sign up, please complete the waiver form and return it to:
