Commercial Projects

Before obtaining a permit for construction of a commercial project, plans are required to be submitted and reviewed for approval. In Wisconsin, the State Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) has the ultimate authority to perform plan reviews and inspections of commercial buildings.
 


Certified Municipality Status


The DSPS considers Menomonee Falls as a Certified Municipality. This means plans for all types of buildings and structures specified in s. SPS 361.30 may be submitted directly to the Village of Menomonee Falls. These specifications are highlighted below: 
  • A new building or structure containing less than 50,000 cubic feet of total volume.
  • An alteration of a room or space involving less than 100,000 cubic feet of total volume. (whole building may exceed these limits and be ok)
  • An addition to a building or structure where the area of the addition results in the entire building or structure containing less than 50,000 cubic feet of total volume.
  • An addition containing no more than 2,500 square feet of total floor area and no more than one floor level, provided the largest roof span does not exceed 18 feet and the exterior wall height does not exceed 12 feet.

Building and HVAC projects exceeding the scope limits above , as well as plumbing and fire alarm and suppression system plans must be submitted to DSPS for approval.
