Fire Prevention

Overview
The Fire Prevention Bureau prevents fires through Fire Code Enforcement and Public Education. The Bureau also investigates the origin, cause, and circumstances of fires with the assistance of various law enforcement officials.

Fire Code Enforcement
The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for providing fire code plan review and inspection services for new and altered construction.

  • Pre-construction site plan reviews
  • Construction final inspections
  • Existing commercial building inspections
  • Automatic fire sprinkler plan review and testing
  • Fire alarms plan review and testing
Approximately 1,500 locations are inspected annually.

Public Education
Citizens and employees of local businesses are offered education and training programs in a variety of subjects:
  • CPR
  • Survive Alive Trailer
  • Assistance in developing and testing an emergency and fire evacuation plan
  • Proper use of portable fire extinguishers
  • Senior Safety
  • Fire extinguisher inspections (twice per year)
  • Campus Fire Safety
  • Home fire inspection (by request)
